[INTERVIEW] GOT7 “Our Popularity is Lower in Korea Compared to Overseas…It's an Objective Truth”

5th year into debut. Their performance on music charts is improving, and they succeeded in securing number 1 on music programs. But that's all thanks to their fandom. GOT7 is an idol group yet to be widely known by the public. Although member Jackson was able to gain recognition through his activeness on variety shows, that's all about it. And that is the reality that GOT7 feels right now.

GOT7 released their new mini-album 'EYES ON YOU' on the 12th. They began their activities with title track 'LOOK', and shows their own color through it. The members share that their goal for this promotion is to "have many people recognizing us when they see us".

Regarding the own color of GOT7, they explained, "it's how we're wild and free, and overflowing with energy. We tried a lot of different concepts, and it's the best to enjoy the fun on stage. We want to keep making it fun. A bright charisma is what we want to pursue."

When GOT7 debut in 2014, JYP Entertainment introduced them as the boy group after 2PM that they place their ambition on. And they attracted the public with their acrobatic-focused performance. Because of that, there were some times when they were questioned with how they could differentiate from 2PM. Thankfully, with the existence of foreign members Jackson, Bambam and Mark, they were able to gain popularity in the China region.

The members said, "Looking at the reality objectively, we are receiving more praises in overseas than in Korea. Indeed, our foreign members are more popular in their countries they belong. As we have more foreign members, we're able to communicate well with the fans in overseas. Thankfully, our fans like us as a group more than just a single member." They laughed.

GOT7 is able to promote without an interpreter in the U.S., Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong. They are proud of the fact that they're able to directly carry out conversation with fans and interact with them.

"We still have the ambition to rise higher. Our performance (of our music/group) is still lacking. Though we sometimes make mistakes on stage, we are confident with our skills and ability. In terms of result, our popularity is slightly disappointing, so we will climb higher. We're not taking a small rest and moving forward, we're grateful that we still have a goal to aim at."
